I’m a live illustrator and visual facilitator based in Toronto, Canada. I have been making live illustrations and visual notes, infographics, and comics since 2022 and zines since 2008.
I came to live illustration and visuals after a career in words.
I have a PhD in Media Studies, have written two books (one, two), and have spent 15+ years in academic lecture halls (as a student and a teacher).
All of this helps me process information and synthesize complex ideas at lightning speed.
My mission is to bring ideas to life (and to make sharing slides that will never be opened a thing of the past).
I want to work with you to connect your ideas with more people, get your ideas shared, ensure your ideas are remembered, and help your ideas grow in ways you haven’t yet imagined.
I live in Toronto, Canada with my husband, Carl, and two snails (both named Sylvia). On average, I go through a 1lb bag of paper confetti every year. I’m a Capricorn and first-born daughter (ie: a little bossy, but I get stuff done and can keep you on track). I have printed and mailed more zines than I can count and am forever grateful to postal workers. My favourite role at a wedding is MC. Yes, I will take care of the relay races and other games at your next party. In 2023, I joined a weekly still life painting class and it changed my brain and life for the better.
I will absolutely invite you to draw with me when we hang out.
Joy is my primary motive.
From the DTM Editions Shelf
I have been creating zines and zine-adjacent work since sometime in the 2000s. Most of my earliest projects have been lost in the frequent moves of my early-20s.
When living in rural Japan in 2010-2012, I used zines to document my experiences and naive observations. Other times, I’ve turned to zines as a method for sharing hobbies and enthusiasms. For a while, I created zines about surviving academia.
Most recently, I have been experimenting my favourite methods—line drawing, tiny handwriting, and a photocopier—to create zines focused on joy. I’ve also been playing with comics, as a mode of telling visual stories and connecting with friends.
Here are a few examples from my personal collection.
